Brittany Yachting Services are agents for the UK based company Tek-Tanks Ltd, who manufacture water, waste and fuel tanks from polyethylene, along with battery boxes and refrigerator & freezer liners. These can be custom made, for maximum capacity, to fit almost any available space onboard, or you can choose from a range of standard sizes.

Under current French legislation, there is no legal requirement for a yacht to have a waste tank fitted unless the vessel was manufactured after 1st January 2008. Those yachts without waste tanks are not permitted to discharge black water into a marina, an anchorage or river; discharge is only permitted 3 nautical miles from shore. This therefore means that you cannot use your toilet onboard unless you are offshore, regardless of whether it is a French flagged vessel or not.

In order to protect the public and the environment, the HELCOM agreement, which has been implemented by Finland & Denmark stipulates that Finnish & Danish vessels must have a holding tank installed, and Germany is expected to follow suit - the remainder of the Baltic countries are soon to make a decision. Spanish flagged vessels are prohibited from discharging black water from their yachts into Spanish waters, and Greece & Turkey both have laws that prevent the discharge of both black and grey water.
